Girls Rock the House features a six-week curriculum that inspires girls to envision their role in the political process. Along the way they will make friends, learn new skills, and build their confidence. Through both small lessons (how to shake hands properly) and large (how to write a congressional bill), girls will grow to believe in themselves and their ability to impact the greater good of their community.
The six-week curriculum will consist of both lectures and interactive participation once a week for 90 minutes. Throughout the curriculum, the girls will also be coached along the process of constructing their bills for the competition. At the culmination of the curriculum, the girls will each individually present their bills to their group. The winner will then go to present her bill at her district level in hopes of being selected to represent their community in a 2½ day program in Washington, D.C.
In D.C., the district winners will attend an opening reception and awards dinner with the women of the House of Representatives. The program will also include time to meet with their representative, an educational tour, and a group community service project.
